Xiong Vs. Wondergirl: Everything To Know About The Special Rules Striking Match At ONE Fight Night 14

A unique matchup featuring two of the most dangerous women in ONE is coming to ONE Fight Night 14: Stamp vs. Ham on Prime Video.

On Friday, September 29, longtime ONE Women’s Strawweight MMA World Champion Xiong Jing Nan will square off with Muay Thai sensation Nat “Wondergirl” Jaroonsak in a first-of-its-kind striking battle.

As we look ahead to that intriguing showdown – which will air live in U.S. primetime from the Singapore Indoor Stadium – here’s a quick primer on this stand-up showcase between “The Panda” and “Wondergirl.”

What Are The Special Rules?

Like ONE’s kickboxing and Muay Thai bouts, this special rules strawweight showdown will consist of three three-minute rounds.

Each athlete will wear the smaller 4-ounce gloves seen in ONE’s MMA and Muay Thai divisions.

All punching techniques with closed fists will be allowed, including spinning and jumping closed-fist punches. Holding the head and punching is perfectly legal, and strikes must land on the padded surface of the gloves (knuckles and back of fists).

However, all kicks, knees, and elbows are prohibited.

In the event that no knockout or stoppage occurs, a trio of ringside judges will score the contest based on the 10-point must system, with the winner of each round receiving 10 points.

How Might The Fight Play Out?

Both women involved in this contest hail from prodigious striking backgrounds, each owning no shortage of highlight-reel knockouts throughout their respective careers.

Xiong has held the ONE Women’s Strawweight MMA World Title for more than five years, firmly establishing herself as one of the most feared pound-for-pound strikers in all of mixed martial arts.

Formerly a member of the Chinese National Boxing Team, “The Panda” is a thunderous puncher, and she’ll come into the matchup loaded with confidence and momentum, having been victorious in her last four fights – all World Title defenses.

“Wondergirl,” meanwhile, comes from an extensive Muay Thai background. The two-time Thailand Champion has earned both of her ONE Muay Thai victories by way of stoppage.

Importantly, the 24-year-old Thai phenom is no stranger to boxing, as she competed in the pugilistic sport as a child.

Each athlete will bring her own unique approach to this contest – Xiong with her years of world-class MMA experience, and “Wondergirl” with her elite Muay Thai credentials.

That clash of styles should make for an anything-can-happen barnburner on September 29.
